A lawsuit alleging that a Columbia Heights priest sexually abused a boy at his church has been settled out of court, the attorney for the boy said Tuesday.

The amount of the settlement was not disclosed.

Jeffrey Anderson, the lawyer for the 13-year-old boy, said he now has settled all four of the suits he has brought against the Rev. Thomas Adamson. But Anderson said he anticipates filing more the Catholic priest. Anderson said an investigation has identified about 20 other boys allegedly abused by Adamson.

The Adamson lawsuits charge that negligence on the part of church authorities allowed the abuse to continue. They allegedly continued to assign Adamson to parishes after learning of the sexual abuse.

The latest case to be settled involved abuse that allegedly occurred while Adamson was assigned to Immaculate Conception Church.

The lawsuit also named the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, and the Diocese of Winona as defendants.
