Woman Alleges Priest at Edina Church Sexually Abused Her When She Was 15

Star Tribune
July 23, 1992

A woman has filed a sexual misconduct suit against a Roman Catholic priest, alleging that he had sexual contact with her while she was a teenager.

The young woman, identified in the suit as Mary Jane Doe, said that between 1966 and 1972 she was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina. She said she was 15 years old when a priest at the parish, the Rev. Richard Jeub, engaged her in unwanted sexual activity in the church rectory, in his car and at her home.

The suit, filed in April in Hennepin County District Court, does not say how old the woman is now. Because of the incidents, the suit alleges, she has suffered depression and has had difficulty maintaining personal relationships. The suit asks for a minimum of $ 50,000 and court costs. Named as defendants are Jeub, the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and Our Lady of Grace Church.

Jerry Klein, spokesman for the archdiocese, said it had been working with Jeub for two years and that he denies abusing the plaintiff.

However, Klein also said, "Archdiocesan officials had already intervened with Father Jeub regarding a situation involving adult women. He was evaluated and treated as recommended."

Klein would not elaborate. He said Jeub "has not been reassigned and is not actively ministering."
