Dallas Morning News
February 27, 1993

NEW YORK -- A Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of New York was convicted this week of sexually abusing a 15-year-old altar boy at St. Peter's Church in Monticello. A jury found the Rev. Juan Bazalar, 43, formerly an assistant pastor at the church, guilty of sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and several counts of sodomy.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 3. After the pastor was indicted in December 1991, he fled to Canada. He was arrested and jailed there, then extradited.
