Priest on Leave after Sex Charges

Wisconsin State Journal
March 3, 1993

The Green Bay Catholic Diocese has placed a priest on leave while it investigates a civil suit that claims he sexually abused a boy while serving at St. Edward's parish near Appleton.

A couple filed a civil suit last week in Brown County Circuit Court claiming the Rev. Leroy Hogan, now 63, "regularly and repeatedly sexually exploited and sexually abused" their son during the mid 1980s, starting when the youth was 7 years old.

Hogan has denied the allegations.

Diocese spokesman Tony Kuick said in a written statement Monday that the diocese has asked the priest to leave his present assignment at St. Patrick Parish in Askeaton in rural Brown County pending the outcome of the case.
