Associated Press, carried in New York Times
July 25, 1993

A priest accused of molesting an 18-year-old man has agreed to undergo counseling, calling the incident a lapse of judgment, a published report said today. Msgr. Robert Morel, pastor of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in River Edge, has promised to get professional counseling in the wake of the incident, according to a transcript of an interview between Monsignor Morel and investigators obtained by The North Jersey Herald and News. Monsignor Morel, 49, is accused of touching the 18-year-old's genitals Wednesday after a party to celebrate the priest's promotion to monsignor on Tuesday night. Monsignor Morel has been charged with criminal sexual contact.
