Priest Faces Hearing on Sex Charges Wisconsin State Journal August 10, 1995 A preliminary hearing is scheduled Aug. 28 for a Catholic priest accused of two counts of sexual exploitation by a therapist. The Rev. Edward Witczak was released after signing a $ 10,000 signature bondfollowing an appearance Tuesday in Brown County Circuit Court. A 29-year-old woman contends that Witczak, 61, started a sexual relationship with her after she approached him for counseling in 1991 when he was assigned to St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, the criminal complaint said. Defense attorney Stephen Glynn of Milwaukee said after the hearing that he and his client had decided not to discuss the case in the news media, but Glynn promised a "factual not-guilty plea," not a "technical not guilty." Witczak denied being the woman's therapist in documents filed in a civil lawsuit she brought. |
