A Sun Prairie boy and his attorney will receive $ 11,000 from a Catholic priest to settle a lawsuit alleging the priest sexually assaulted the boy in 1991.

In the settlement approved Tuesday by Dane County Circuit Judge P. Charles Jones, Rev. Phillip C. Keyes agreed to pay the sum to D.H. to settle allegations that Keyes molested the 9-year-old boy on several occasions beginning in December 1991.

J.K., an older relative of D.H., received less money earlier this year to settle allegations that Keyes had sexually assaulted J.K. in 1982-84, said attorney Timothy Cesar.

A deposit of $ 6,378 is to be made in D.H.'s name in a Sauk City bank. The boy will be entitled to the account's proceeds on Aug. 13, 2000, when he turns 18. His attorney is to be paid $ 4,622 in costs and fees from the settlement.

The suit alleged that Keyes sexually assaulted D.H. and J.K., also of Sun Prairie, at Keyes' Rock County home. Keyes denied assaulting J.K. but admitted to having had consensual sexual contact with D.H., according to documents filed with the court. Keyes was associated with the Society of Pius X and was assigned to the St. Pius V Church in Mukwonago at the time of the alleged assaults. The society and church settled with the plaintiffs earlier this year, Cesar said.
