  Priest Sentenced for Sexual Abuse

Wisconsin State Journal
January 4, 1996

A former Green Bay priest was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation after being convicted of sexually abusing a female parishioner who had sought his counseling.

The Rev. Edward Witczak, 61, pleaded no contest to four counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault in the case involving a woman who is now 29 years old.

Witczak also was ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and pay $ 1,080 in fines and court costs. He was a priest at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish when the woman joined the parish in 1991. Witczak resigned as pastor and is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a civil suit against him, diocesan officials said.
