The Rev. Henry J. Nawn Priest and Teacher, 74 The Rev. Henry J. Nawn, 74, a priest who served as a teacher and parish priest, died of congestive heart failure Saturday at Villa St. Joseph in Darby.

Father Nawn, who was born in Philadelphia, studied for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook after graduating from Lansdowne High School. He was ordained in May 1955.

He was assistant pastor at St. Patrick Church in McAdoo, Schuylkill County, St. Mary Church in Saint Clair, and St. Joseph Church in Downingtown until 1957, when he became a teacher. He first taught at St. James High School in Chester and then at Cardinal Dougherty High in Philadelphia.

He returned to the parish ministry in 1978 and served at St. Robert Church in Chester, St. Bernard and St. Edmond in Philadelphia, and Corpus Christi in Upper Gwynedd.

He retired in 1991.

Surviving are four sisters, Corrine Schneider, Sister Maria Christi, Catherine Pitts and Rita Zeiser.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception BVM Church in Jenkintown following a viewing from noon to 1:45 p.m.; burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
