Internet Porn Investigators Arrest 6 More

San Francisco Chronicle
April 14, 1999

Martinez — Six more men have been arrested for sending sexually explicit messages and pornography to a 14-year-old Walnut Creek boy on the Internet, police and law enforcement sources said yesterday.

Police arrested the men Saturday after acting on information provided by Robert Earle Lee, 48, of San Francisco, according to sources. Lee was arrested in November after he allegedly molested and photographed the same boy near a Walnut Creek elementary school on two occasions several months earlier.

Police identified the additional suspects as Matthew McDearmid, 22, of Vallejo; William Green, 39, of Oakland; Pat Hsu, 39, of Walnut Creek; Jeffrey Meek, 30, of Oakland; Craig Dodge, 36, of Hayward; and Edwin "Ted" Wheelock, 33, of Walnut Creek.

All six were being held at the County Jail in Martinez and are expected to be arraigned on the felony charges today. Five are being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Hsu, described by sources as wealthy, is being held on $10 million bail.

Aside from sending pornography and messages, two of the men may also have had sex with the victim, a law enforcement source said. Police are not saying whether the men are part of a child pornography ring, but they are looking for more suspects.

The arrests were made in cooperation with authorities from Alameda County, the San Jose Police Department's child exploitation unit, the Walnut Creek Police Department and the Contra Costa district attorney's office.
