Priest Pleads Guilty to Sex-Based Charges

San Francisco Chronicle
July 24, 1999

Martinez — An Oakland priest has pleaded guilty to two counts of oral copulation and one charge of attempting to send harmful material to a minor in an Internet sting that snared five other men.

The Rev. William Green was sentenced to a two-year prison term July 16 after his plea, said prosecutor Julie Hast.

The five other men also have been charged in the case. Two of the cases have been resolved before trial. The Contra Costa district attorney's office has dismissed charges against two other defendants who are facing prosecution by the U.S. attorney's office with federal crimes of sending child pornography via computer and using a computer to coerce a minor into sex, Hast said.

Attorneys for some of the defendants have accused prosecutors of conducting a "homophobic" witch hunt.
