A Garfield Heights man yesterday sued the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, St. Barnabas Church and a priest who allegedly sexually molested him 16 years ago.

Michael Doyle, 28, is seeking more than $150,000 from the diocese, the church and Neil Conway, a former associate pastor at St. Barnabas Church on Olde Eight Rd. in Northfield Center Township. Doyle said in his suit, filed in Summit County Common Pleas Court, that Conway molested him in 1984, when Doyle was in the eighth grade at St. Barnabas school and an altar boy at the church.

"It happened multiple times," said Harvey B. Bruner, Doyle's attorney.

He said Conway's "malicious and intentional" actions caused Doyle to suffer mental, physical and emotional pain that has required treatment.

St. Barnabas and diocese officials failed to properly supervise Conway, Bruner said, despite the fact that Conway's actions had been reported to St. Barnabas.

Conway, of Chagrin Falls, could not be reached for comment. St. Barnabas spokeswoman Marie Mikovsky said Conway had not worked at the school for years and she had no further information.
