  Priest Abuse Charge Unsettled

Wausau Daily Herald
January 27, 2003

Attorneys have yet to resolve the sexual abuse allegations that shook three western Shawano County Catholic parishes last year.

The Rev. Michael Carroll was suspended in June from his duties at Catholic churches in Wittenberg, Tigerton and Marion after an unnamed person accused Carroll of sexually abusing him more than 20 years ago when the purported victim was a minor. Through the diocese, Carroll has denied the charge.

"It's a situation that is basically in the hands of (Carroll's) lawyer and the lawyer of the person making the allegation," Tony Kuick said last week. Kuick is the director of communications for the Diocese of Green Bay.

Kuick was unable to say where the alleged abuse occurred and would not reveal the names of the attorneys involved. No civil suit has been filed, he said, and Carroll does not face criminal charges.
