  Regarding Harold C. Depp

By Ned McGrath
Archdiocese of Detroit
May 30, 2003

The Communications Office of the Archdiocese of Detroit has been made aware of the arrest in southern California of Harold C. Depp, 72, who served as a priest of the archdiocese from 1959-1963. The allegation against Depp involves sexual abuse of a minor in Oceanside, California in the early 1970's. It appears a similar charge was made against him in Alaska during the mid 1980's. At the time these incidents are alleged to have occurred, it is not clear if Depp was working or presenting himself as a priest. Following his sudden and unannounced departure from his last parish assignment in Detroit, Depp was listed as a priest "on leave." 20-years later, he inquired about possible reinstatement as an archdiocesan priest but was denied.
