Southborough — Reverend Eymard P. Galligan, SSE, 82, of Southborough, MA died on November 27, 2004 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester after an illness.

Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Louise (Dennin) Galligan and the brother of the late Gerard Galligan.

He leaves his brother Clement X. Galligan of Washington, DC; his sister, Sr. Marie Carmel Galligan, SSND of Baltimore, MD; his dear sister-in-law, Josephine Gray Galligan of Southborough, his nieces and nephews, Michael, John, Suzanne and Christine Galligan; 2 great nieces, Caitlin & Diana Galligan, and 2 great nephews Ryan and Brendan Galligan and his brothers in religion.

A professed member of the Society of Saint Edmund for sixty one years and an ordained priest for fifty seven years, he was a graduate of Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT. In 1975 his alma mater conferred upon him a Doctor of Humane Letters and Doctor of Divinity.

Known as a priest, leader, administrator, entrepreneur, visionary, a man of gentleness, patience, wit, admirable fortitude and jovial geniality, Father Galligan served as an instructor of English Literature and Sociology at Saint Michael's College for three years, he was director of Edmundite vocations from 1949 to 1956; local superior in Mystic, CT and Selma, AL from 1954 to 1964, 8th superior general of the Society of St. Edmund from 1964 to 1974; chairman of the Board of St. Michael's College from 1967 to 1974; director of development for the House of Affirmation in Whitinsville, MA from 1977 to 1986; and from 1985 to 2002 an extensive ministry in many parishes thorough out the Worcester and Boston dioceses, including St. Anne & St. Mathew Church in Southborough, MA and St. Matthias Church in Marlborough, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St. Southborough.

A Prayer service will follow at 7:15 PM at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Road, Southborough.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, December 1, at 10 AM at St. Anne Church.

Father Galligan will be buried with his deceased Edmundite brothers in St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton, VT, A committal service will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at 2 PM.
