Monsignor Charles Durkin Died peacefully this morning, April 18, 2006, at Smith Ranch Care Center in San Rafael. He was 76 years of age.

Monsignor is survived by his nephews, Michael (Victoria) and Brian (Kirsten); his nieces, Laurie Durkin and Teri (Steve) Argabright; in addition to many great-nieces and great-nephews. Monsignor was ordained for the Archdiocese of San Francisco on June 11, 1955. He began his ministry as a Parochial Vicar at Star of the Sea Church in S.F. He was then appointed Parochial Vicar at St. Sebastian Church in Greenbrae, St. Patrick Church in S.F., Church of the Epiphany in S.F. and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Redwood City before being assigned as Pastor of All Souls Church in South San Francisco in 1974, where he remained for 12 years. In 1986 Monsignor Durkin was assigned as Pastor at Saint Elizabeth Church. He returned to his first parish, Star of the Sea, in 1995, where he ministered as pastor until his retirement in 2002. Most recently, Monsignor had been residing at Nazareth House in San Rafael. Friends may visit Thursday, April 20, at 6:00 PM, and attend the Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at Star of the Sea Church, 4420 Geary Blvd., S.F. The Funeral Mass will be concelebrated on Friday, April 21, at 10:00 AM at Star of the Sea Church. Committal Service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, CA.
