  Reverend Thomas F. Cawley, CM

Father Thomas Cawley was born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1930. He entered the Congregation of the Mission in 1948, and was ordained a priest in 1957 by Archbishop Joseph Ritter at St. Mary of the Barrens in Perryville, Missouri. He earned a DMS degree from Hong Kong University in 1974.


The first thirty-one years of Fr. Cawley's priestly ministry was spent on the Chinese mission – 16 years in Hong Kong, as Mission Procurator in support of missionaries in Asia and Taiwan. He also assisted the Catholic community in Hong Kong. In 1988, he was assigned to Rome, where he became Econome General of the Congregation of the Mission.

In 1993, Fr. Cawley returned to the United States to undertake pastoral ministry in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas. He also spent two years as a chaplain to the Daughters of Charity in Evansville, Indiana. Since 2004, Fr. Cawley has been a senior priest in residence at the Vincentian Parish Mission Center in Independence, Missouri.
