Letter Responding to a Letter from Bernie and Seamus

By Abbot Kevin A. Smith, O.Praem.
February 4, 1991

I thank you for your good letter recvd. [sic] here today. I understand your concern. However, there is no way I can prevent Fr Brendan Smyth from going to Belfast. He is a man of almost 65 years of age. However, I can assure you that he is attending a professional sexual counsellor twice each month and they will continue for some time. He attends Dr Del Monte in St James Hospital, Dublin. I have monitored the situation several times with him and he assures me that everything is going well. Likewise I talk to Fr Brendan often too. There is nothing more that I can do. We must also pray for him.

With my good wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Kevin A. Smith, O. Praem. Abbot.
