Two Masses will honor Monsignor Walsh

Miami Herald
January 20, 2002

The public is invited to attend two "month's mind Masses" celebrating the life of the late Monsignor Bryan Walsh during the next few days.

Operation Pedro Pan Group is organizing an 11 a.m. Mass today at Cor Jesu Chapel at Barry University, 11300 NE Second Ave., Miami Shores. Walsh, who died Dec. 20, was perhaps best known as the indefatigable Irish priest who ran Pedro Pan, which helped bring more than 14,000 youngsters to the United States from Cuba in the 1960s.

A month's mind Mass is an Irish tradition for a departed person offered on, or close to, the 30th day after death or burial.

On Tuesday, Archdiocese of Miami Bishop Thomas Wenski will celebrate Mass at 11:45 a.m. at St. Martha's Catholic Church, 9301 Biscayne Blvd. Employees from Catholic Charities, which Walsh founded, and the archdiocese will attend.
