Hugh Mills Sutton, Jr., popularly known as "Father John" was the youngest of four sons born to Hugh Mills Sutton and Mary Miser Sutton. A pastor and history teacher, having taught for over 40 years in Catholic high schools throughout the US., including California, Wichita Falls, Tx., Biloxi, Ms., and Miami, Fla. He was three times on the staff of Chaminade Catholic College Preparatory high school in Canoga Park, Cal. He was a navy chaplain during both WWII and the Vietnam War. He lived for a while in Guam during his navy stint. He was the pastor of St. Francis of Assissi Church in Forrest City, Arkansas for one year and did pastoral work in both New Ulm, Minnesota and North Dakota. While residing in the Franciscan Sisters Assisted Living in Venice, Ohio, he celebrated Mass there and in nursing homes for many miles around. A generous and enthusiastic host, Fr. John was well liked and always good humored.
