Reverend James Thomas Booth,Jr. 90,has returned to be with the Father in Heaven.
James(known by all as J.T.) died on Jan.24,2012,in Stockton,Calif. He was born in Needles,Calif.,on Sept.9,1921,to James T. Booth,Sr. and Henrietta E. Booth. Both were life-long residents of Needles.
J.T. attended D Street Elementary School and Needles High School in Needles until the eleventh grade; he then moved to Canyon City,Colo.to attend a Jesuit high school.Upon completion of high school,he went to Camarillo,Calif.,and entered the seminary to become a Catholic Priest.
J.T. was ordained into the Catholic Priesthood in April 1946 at Saint John's Cathedral in San Diego,Calif. After his ordination,he came back to Needles and said his first Solemn High Mass at Saint Ann's Catholic Church.
He was a priest of several churches throughout Southern Calif. until his mid fifties,when he was sent to Rome to attend the University Americana;there he studied and majored in Cannon Law.Upon his return to America,he was assigned to the bishop's office in San Diego. He then invested as a Monsignor.
He became Chancellor of San Diego Diocese until the late sixties when he resigned his priesthood to become married. After he married,he reentered the ministry of God by being accepted into the Episcopal Church Priesthood.
He served God for the Episcopal Church throughout Central California. He was a priest in churches in Fresno,Calif.,and Stockton. He officially retired from the ministry in the late nineties,and remained in Stockton until his drath.
J.T. is survived by wife,Stephanie;his daughter,Teresa;and three grandaughters.
The Booth family will hold a graveside memorial service to bury his ashes on Saturday,March 31,at 11:30 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Needles.
