In 2004, Fr. Donald Whelan of the Archdiocese of New York was named in a lawsuit for sexually abusing a boy in the mid-1960s. The abuse occurred when Fr. Whelan was assigned to St. John Vianney Parish in New York. Fr. Donald Whelan worked at the following New York parishes: St. Margaret’s in Pearl River, St. John Vianney in Flushing, St. Ann’s in Nyack, and St. Patrick’s in Newburg. Fr. Donald Whelan died in 1988. Note: Fr. Whelan’s last name was misspelled as ‘Whalen’ in the 2004 lawsuit. (Source: www.bishopaccountability.org)
