Executive Summaries

From July 26th through December 31, 2004, the Gavin Group of Boston, Massachusetts conducted audits of 194 Catholic dioceses and eparchies in the United States to determine compliance with the provisions of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The results of each audit are contained in an Executive Summary and a statement of Compliance. Some Summaries include "Additional Actions to Protect Children" (actions that go beyond what is required in the Charter) or "Supplemental Information" provided by the diocese or eparchy.

Interpreting the Executive Summaries

  • Generic verbiage is used to provide a consistent reporting of the actions of the diocese or eparchy.

  • Generic wording may suggest that allegations of abuse were received by certain dioceses and eparchies during the audit period when, in fact, none were received by them.

  • "Since the last audit" and "during the audit period" are interchangeable phrases. The use of these terms does not suggest that the diocese or eparchy was non-compliant in the previous audit.

  • The audits represent conditions as they existed at the time of the audits unless otherwise noted.

You may review the Executive Summaries of each these audits by clicking on the name of the diocese or eparchy listed below.
