A longtime Bucks County Catholic priest will be permanently barred from ministry after the Archdiocese of Philadelphia said it substantiated allegations of inappropriate conduct.

The Rev. John Bowe, 64, who served at St. Agnes in Hilltown and St. Joseph’s in Warrington, was found unsuitable for ministry because of “boundary” and “behavioral” problems, not sexual assault.

The Rev. David Givey, another priest in the archdiocese, will also be barred from ministry.

But four other priests who were investigated were found to be suitable for ministry, with the claims against them unsubstantiated including two priests with local connections: the Rev. Msgr. John Close, whose service included time at Archbishop Wood High School, Warminster (1990-1994); Regina Coeli Residence for Priests, Warminster (1991-1994); and Saint Michael the Archangel, Levittown (1994-1996); and the Rev. Leonard Peterson, whose service included time at Saint Isidore, Quakertown (1983); Lansdale Catholic High School, Lansdale (1983-1986); and Saint Maria Goretti, Hatfield (1997-2011).
