April 11, 2014 (CHICAGO) (WLS) — Francis Cardinal George will discuss Friday his health and the recent decision to skip an important Vatican event – the canonization of two popes.
The cardinal said he hopes to rearrange his treatment schedule, but he said last week that would be a very difficult thing to do, so he has made the choice not to go to Rome. Cardinal George will hold a special news conference about his decision not to travel for and his cancer treatments.
The 77-year-old spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of Chicago was supposed to go to Rome later this month to attend the canonizations of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II, who appointed Cardinal George. The trip was on his schedule, but the cardinal last week indicated it was tentative.
