A 40-year-old priest was suspended by the Catholic Church for appearing nude in photographs posted on social networks, Brazilian media reported Sunday.

The unidentified priest was assigned to a church in Miracema, a small city in the northern state of Rio de Janeiro, and told the Diocese of Campos dos Goytacazes that he was the victim of blackmail.

Selfies of the naked priest were posted on the Internet and church officials became aware of the images, deciding to suspend the man on Saturday, the Globo network reported.
