WHAT: A press conference featuring survivors of clergy sexual abuse from the United States and Peru, including Ana María Quispe Díaz, whose case was directly covered up by then-Bishop Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV) during his tenure in the Diocese of Chiclayo.

WHO: Ana María Quispe Díaz, abuse survivor and advocate from Peru, SNAP (Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests) leaders and survivor advocates from the U.S., Global supporters and experts on church accountability
WHY: Ana María Quispe Díaz has spoken out courageously about her abuse, despite being discredited by representatives of the Catholic Church. The church has created an ongoing public safety issue by delaying the removal of the accused, Fr. Eleuterio “Lute” Vásquez González, from ministry. In addition, the Diocese of Chiclayo and the Vatican have failed to provide adequate care or compensation to support Ana María and other victims. Survivors and advocates are demanding real accountability, not just for Lute, but for every church official, including Pope Leo XIV, who played a role in allowing this abuse and its cover-up to persist. These demands are at the heart of SNAP’s Zero Tolerance initiative, which seeks an enforceable global policy to end abuse and cover-up within the Catholic Church.

POR QUÉ: Ana María Quispe Díaz ha denunciado con valentía su abuso, a pesar de haber sido desacreditada por representantes de la Iglesia Católica. La Iglesia ha generado un problema de seguridad pública al retrasar la destitución del acusado, el Padre Eleuterio “Lute” Vásquez González, del ministerio. Además, la Diócesis de Chiclayo y el Vaticano no han brindado la atención ni la compensación adecuadas para apoyar a Ana María y a otras víctimas. Sobrevivientes y defensores exigen una verdadera rendición de cuentas, no solo de Lute, sino de todos los funcionarios de la Iglesia, incluido el Papa León XIV, que contribuyeron a que este abuso y su encubrimiento persistieron. Estas demandas son la base de la iniciativa de Tolerancia Cero de SNAP, que busca una política global aplicable para poner fin al abuso y el encubrimiento dentro de la Iglesia Católica.
