Former head of Methodist Church Steven Wild in court

The former head of the Methodist church in Cornwall has appeared at Truro Magistrates’ Court to face charges of sexual assault.

Steven Wild, aged 70, from St Ives, pleaded not guilty to eight charges of indecent and sexual assault when he appeared in court today (September 15).

The charges read:

  • Indecent assault on a woman on in 2004 at Newquay.
  • Sexual assault on a woman in 2004 at St Mary’s in the Isle of Scilly.
  • Sexual assault on a woman in 2004 at St Mary’s in the Isle of Scilly.
  • Sexual assault on a female in 2005 in Derbyshire.
  • The sexual assault of a female in 2014 at Sidmouth.
  • Sexual assault on a female in 2018 at Exeter in the county of Devon.
  • Sexual assault on a female in 2019 at Bristol where he intentionally touched a woman aged 16 or over.
  • Sexual assault on a female in 2015 at Southport.

Wild pleaded not guilty to all seven charges.

Magistrates elected to send the case to crown court for trial.

Wild was given unconditional bail to appear at Truro Crown Court on October 17.

Steven Wild was chairman of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Methodist District from 2008 until 2022.
