By Robert Hoatson
Mayor Koch’s statement that the clergy sexual abuse crisis “was mostly homosexual issues,” was wrong on its face. Pedophiles, and not homosexuals or heterosexuals, abuse children.
Sexual abuse of minors is an act of pedophilia, not gender identification.
What
A demonstration opposing Mayor Thomas Koch’s opinion that the Catholic Church’s childhood sexual abuse scandal is due to homosexuals. He ignores the research that does not link homosexuality with pedophilia. Pedophilia is a mental illness.

Where
On the public sidewalk outside the Office of Mayor Thomas Koch at 1305 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA, 02169
Who
Robert M. Hoatson, Ph.D., Co-founder and President of Road to Recovery, Inc., a non-profit charity based in New Jersey that assists victims of sexual abuse and their families; and John Doe, a victim of clergy sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Boston.
Why
Mayor Thomas Koch, appearing on the radio program, NIGHTLINE, on WBZ 1030 radio, on September 24, 2025, accused mostly homosexuals of perpetrating acts of sexual abuse of minors in the Catholic Church. His comments spurred protests and criticism from the LGBTQ+ community and clergy sexual abuse victims. Mayor Koch caused re-victimization and re-traumatization of innocent victims of clergy sexual abuse.
