A former South Carolina youth pastor has been sentenced to federal prison after appearing in court on Tuesday.
Daniel Kellan Mayfield was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 240 months in prison on a federal charge for possessing child pornography.
The judge said he must serve 85 percent of his sentence and is also required to register as a sex offender.
Officials stated 5,344 images of child pornography were found on Mayfield’s phone.
He hid cameras and cell phones in church bathrooms and showers to record and take pictures of the victims, many of whom were minors under 12 years old.
He had been doing this for three to four years, according to officials.
According to an adult family member, Mayfield also had images and or video of her. She said she caught him recording her in the shower and when the family confronted him that night, they found the thousands of pictures and videos.
Mayfield was a former youth pastor at Gowensville Baptist Church in Greenville County. He was also a wedding videographer.
The pastor was first arrested on state charges in 2023. Since then, he now faces more than 150 over accusations that he filmed girls and women while they were in the bathroom.
Officials said Mayfield’s state charges are still pending.
