A Roman Catholic priest jailed for abusing boys in Coventry has been found guilty of another child sex offence and is likely to die in jail. Alexander Bede Walsh abused vulnerable young people for more than 20 years.

On Tuesday, January 13, Walsh, 72, was convicted of indecently assaulting a boy following a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. He abused the victim in Cheadle in the 1980s.

Walsh was previously jailed in 2012 after being found guilty of sexually abusing and indecently assaulting young boys between the 1970s and 1990s. He is serving a 22-year sentence at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

Boys aged between eight and 16 were abused while Walsh was working in CoventryWarwickshire, and Staffordshire. He also had a previous conviction for possessing indecent images.

Walsh was arrested and interviewed in 2006 after two men reported being abused in Coventry. Other victims who had been subjected to ‘predatory’ abuse came forward between 2008 and 2025.

All eight victims testified at the trial in 2012, leading to Bede Walsh being jailed. He returned to Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday, where he was again found guilty of indecent assault against a boy and now awaits sentencing.

Det Con Joseph Allen said: “If you are a survivor and feel ready to tell us what has happened to you, please know you will be listened to and supported every step of the way as we seek to deliver justice. If you are ready to talk to us, call 101 or use Live Chat on our website.”
