A second man is now arrested and charged with crimes related to the sexual exploitation of a minor.
FOX13 found Martineous Tyler is in custody, indicted on charges including human trafficking and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor. He’s the second person to be charged in connection to a crime related to the same child, according to one unidentified mother.
She sat down with FOX13 in July 2025 after Demarcus Smith, a former pastor and registered sex offender, was set to be sentenced to federal charges related to her son. The mom — whom FOX13 will not identify because of the nature of the crime — told FOX13 her son first met Tyler in 2024.
“He liked doing graphic design, and the guy has a business, so he used to take him to the business to print out things and get little orders together; he liked that,” she said.
She said he helped Tyler at his business, Memphis Obituary Company, Tyler’s Graphics and Printing.
She said she never met Smith in person, but she found out who he was after going through her son’s phone. “When I opened it up, my heart shattered,” she recalled.
She said she found nude photos and sexual conversations and reported it to police.
That’s when she said she found out Smith was already a registered sex offender after a 2016 guilty plea to possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said he coerced a boy to send sexually explicit photos of himself. At the time, he was a pastor at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
A federal judge sentenced Smith to seven years in prison. After Smith’s release in 2023, FOX13 found Smith went back to preaching, this time as a reverend at a different church.
Posts on the Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church show Smith was promoted in June 2024 as the Sunday speaker.
Another post, from September 2024, shows Smith on a flyer for the ‘Clergy Appreciation Celebration’ service.
He pleaded guilty to new sex charges, involving that woman’s son, in May 2025 and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
“It wasn’t enough time, because I don’t think it’s enough time in the world to give somebody for a crime like this,” said the mother.
On February 10, Tyler was indicted on human trafficking and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
