A Prince George’s County school employee and dance academy founder has been charged with 5 counts of producing child sex abuse material.

A dance academy founder and school employee made his initial appearance in federal court Thursday in connection to alleged child sex abuse crimes.

Xaviour Smith, 28, of Upper Marlboro has been charged with five counts of producing child sexual abuse material. Smith is the founder of 1101 Dance Academy, Inc., in Temple Hills, which serves youths aged 8 to 18. Smith also works for the Prince George’s County Public Schools.

According to the indictment, between March and August 2025, Smith persuaded, induced, enticed and coerced three minors to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Smith exploited the minors for the purpose of producing visual depictions of sexually explicit conduct, according to court documents.

Prince George’s County Public Schools told WUSA9 they placed Smith on leave after learning about his federal indictment Thursday. Smith’s students do not appear to be victims, law enforcement indicated to school district officials, WUSA reported.

“At this time, law enforcement has indicated that there is no reason to believe students at his assigned workplace were impacted,” PGCPS’ official statement reads. “We will continue to fully cooperate with authorities as the investigation moves forward.”

Photos found on 1101 Dance Academy’s Facebook page show the accused dance coach surrounded by children, and in some photos, embracing his young dancers. The account lists Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Temple Hills as the address for the dance classes.

“We were informed today of the federal indictment of one of our employees, Xaviour Smith. Mr. Smith is currently on leave. As this is a personnel matter, we are unable to share additional details at this time. The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) expects all employees and contracted personnel to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to comply with all applicable laws. At this time, law enforcement has indicated that there is no reason to believe students at his assigned workplace were impacted. We will continue to cooperate fully with authorities as the investigation moves forward,” the school district said in a statement provided to 7News.

If convicted, Smith faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison for each of the five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
