Earlier this week, GoLocal was the first to report that a student at the Barrington boarding school, St. Andrew’s, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and simple assault.

The alleged perpetrator is a juvenile.

Since then, GoLocal has learned that a second student had come forward making similar allegations against the same individual. The alleged victim’s parents notified the school of the allegations over a month ago.

The Rhode Island Family Court has issued an order barring the alleged perpetrator from contacting the two alleged victims. Further, the individual has been ordered to home confinement and must wear an electronic monitoring device.

By Rhode Island law, the school is required to report any allegations of abuse and neglect to the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) within 24 hours.

GoLocal on Friday was told by DCYF spokesperson Barb Francella, “DCYF was not formally made aware by St. Andrew’s School of any incidents. Members of our Child Protective Services team initiated contact with the school and law enforcement after media reports came to our attention. Due to confidentiality laws, we’re unable to comment further.”

The Failure to Notify Went on for Weeks

On March 3, the evening that the student at St. Andrew’s was arrested for sexual assault, the parents of a second student emailed more than a dozen St. Andrew’s board members notifying them of that there was a second victim.  Not one of the school officials reached out to the parents for more than two weeks.

GoLocal reviewed letters written by the attorney, Timothy Conlon, representing the families of the alleged two victims, who identified to the school’s attorney that he was representing the alleged victims in these matters relating to “Sexual Misconduct at St. Andrew’s School.”

Still, there was no notification by the school to the state of the alleged sexual assaults.

St. Andrew’s Response

In a statement to GoLocal, Chairman of the St. Andrew’s Board of Trustees, Anton Giedt wrote, “On Wednesday, April 9th, St. Andrew’s School was informed that a second student had filed a complaint of sexual assault with the Barrington Police Department against the same minor student involved in the charged alleged incident complaint filed by another student on or about March 1, 2026. “

“In accordance with school protocol, officials of St. Andrew’s immediately notified the Barrington Police, which confirmed it had a complaint on file from the second student.  The alleged incident occurred in 2025.  The school has received no further details about the second complaint, and there is no indication that there are any charges associated with the complaint at this time,” added Giedt.

But Giedt’s comments do not align with the email sent to board members by the parents of the second alleged victim or the letter that the school’s lawyer received from the attorney representing the two alleged victims. Both of those documents GoLocal has confirmed were sent and received.

Head of School on Leave

GoLocal was also the first to report that the head of school is on leave.

In a separate message to faculty and staff, the head of school, David Tinagero, announced that he was taking a leave.

He wrote, “I want to let you know that I will be taking a leave of absence for family reasons and will be away from campus for a period of time.”

In addition, Tinagero wrote, “Thank you for your understanding and for continuing to support one another and our students..

Tinagero receives an annual compensation package of $474,670, and his wife also works for the school.

Prior to joining St. Andrews in July of 2015, he served as Dean of Students and New York University’s Abu Dhabi campus for five years.

Pattern of Secrecy

Just hours after GoLocal first unveiled that a student at St. Andrew’s School had been charged, the school finally notified families.

The $75,000 a year boarding school in Barrington had waited more than a month after it learned of the incident to notify the St. Andrew’s School community.

According to the email to students, “We recognize that news like this can be upsetting, confusing, or difficult to process. Our priority is the safety, well-being, and dignity of all students.”

Further, St. Andrew’s claims that “the school is cooperating fully with appropriate authorities as they carry out their work. We ask each of you to be thoughtful and responsible in how you respond to rumors, speculation, and unverified information…”
