[Nuncio Eliseo Ariotti said that Plano would not resign. Pope Francis then ordered his replacement and Bishop Ricardo Jorge Valenzuela Rios of Villarrica del Espiritu Santo was appointed administrator. Livieres Plano remains in Rome where he was meeting with various representatives of the Roman curia. The meetings were the final part of the process which began in July with the apostolic visit to Ciudad del Este. Ariotti will travel to Ciudad del Este with Valenzuela to “ensure the ecclesial and spiritual serentiy” of the church in the region as a sensitive time and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken for pastoral and administrative continuity. Ariotti said that Livieres Plano will retain the title of bishop but without any role in administering the diocese. Auditors sent from the Vatican have noticed there is no unity in the Paraguayan church so there must begin a serious process of reconciliation and overcoming of factional discord.]
