Fr. Roland P. Cote

Ordained: 1971
Status: Accused

Diocese: Diocese of Manchester NH

In 4/2002 a man accused Cote of sexually assaulting him as a teenager in the early 1980s. Cote admitted to a “sexual relationship” with the boy and to paying him for sex, but said the boy was 18 at the time. Cote also admitted that he was sexually active in the mid-1980s with a “couple of other people” who were about 18 years old. Bishop McCormack reassigned Cote to a new parish in 6/2002; he did not inform parishioners of the allegations, or that there had been a financial settlement. Cote left the parish in 11/2002 after parishioners learned of the allegations and confronted McCormack.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
