Fr. Alfred M. Murphy

Murphy’s’ personnel file, released in 12/2002, shows an allegation of molestation of a 17-year-old boy over a 3-week period in 1983, during a cross-country trip in an RV. His accuser settled with the Archdiocese and Order in 1992. Murphy was transferred to a Philadelphia monastery to live under supervision. A civil suit filed was settled in 1992. Another lawsuit against the Order settled for $100K in 10/2011. It alleged abuse of a youth by Murphy and a Brother John between 1966-1968. Murphy’s name was omitted from the Boston Archdiocese’s 2011 database.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
