Fr. Robert J. Schober
Placed on leave in 9/2021 due to a claim of sexual abuse in the Diocese’s bankruptcy case and in an allegation in a lawsuit filed in 8/2021 under the NY Child Victims Act. Schober allegedly sexually abused a child, ages 8-13, during 1980-1985, while assigned to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Elma. He denied the allegation. In 5/2022 the Diocese announced that its Review Board found that the allegation was unsubstantiated. Schober was reinstated. He died 6/26/2023.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
