Fr. Carlo Alberto Capella

Ordained for the Archdiocese of Milan, Italy in 1993. Monsignor. Vatican diplomat working in Washington DC at the Vatican nunciature summer 2016-2017. Capella was recalled to the Vatican after it was notified by the U.S. State Department in 8/2017 that he was being investigated for possession and distribution of child pornography images. In 9/2017 Canada police put out an arrest warrant for Capella. Investigated by Vatican prosecutors. Trial in 2018. The Vatican Gendarme’s tech expert testified that Capella’s phone and computers held images of “sexual intercourse of all kinds between adults and prepubescent children,” ages 13-17, and one of “a very young child engaged in explicit acts.” Convicted. Sentenced to 5 years in prison; allowed to work during the day at a Vatican office. In July 2025, Capella was reportedly working as a clerk at the Vatican Secretariat of State.
