A pastor and social media influencer in Fort Worth, Texas, was arrested Sunday on a sexual assault charge.
Alonzo Diego Fuller, 39, was arrested by Fort Worth police on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault that, according to The Dallas Morning News, allegedly occurred in June.
On Monday, Fuller was released from the Tarrant County jail on a $40,000 surety bond, according to jail records.
But Fuller, founding pastor of Journey Fort Worth Church, said he “categorically denies” these accusations, which, he says, were brought by a former parishioner.
The church’s board of elders said these accusations are without merit, according to a statement posted Wednesday on Facebook.
“Pastor Diego fully supports and welcomes a thorough investigation by the criminal justice system and looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name,” they said. “He remains committed to transparency and truth as the legal process moves forward.”
The elders noted that Fuller will continue to lead the congregation throughout the legal process. There is “absolutely no validity to these claims, and he remains steadfast in his dedication to serving Journey Fort Worth Church,” they said.
In another statement on Facebook, Fuller expressed appreciation for prayer for him and his family.
“Thank you for the prayers, calls, emails, and love so many have shown during this time,” Fuller said. “My wife and I truly appreciate it. We kindly ask for continued prayer and for privacy as our family walks through this together.”
Fuller’s defense attorney, Bret Martin, said Fuller wants to share his side of the story.
“We look forward to the opportunity for our side of the story to be presented to the public,” Martin told the Fort Worth Star Star-Telegram. “Everyone has 100% confidence in Pastor Fuller, and responses have been overwhelmingly positive.”
Fuller founded Journey Fort Worth Church in 2022 alongside his wife, Asia Fuller, according to the church’s website. The church meets in a local elementary school.
On the website, Fuller adds that his ministry philosophy is to “have a consistent, integrity, deep, and loving relationship with God.”
“From the depths of my soul and heart, I am convinced that God has called me to be a lead pastor and to serve Him in that capacity,” he said. “As a man who has been engrafted and called by God to love and serve Him as a minister of the gospel, I recognize and affirm that I am foremost a servant of people. That being said, I commit my life to the spiritual success of others.”
Outside of the church, Fuller said he has a passion for serving kids in foster care, as the pastor noted he was once a foster child himself.
