Local parents who say their son was bullied, battered, and sexually assaulted at Central Catholic High School are suing the school and want to see a change in policies.

The parents held a news conference on Wednesday to talk about the case and to highlight “anti-bullying month”.

They filed a lawsuit against the school earlier this year, saying the school allowed their son to be subject to bullying — sexual assault — and hazing in a room called “the cage” several times.

“The cage” is a slang term used by students to refer to the athletic locker room and not an actual cage.

The student’s parents want the school to adopt zero-tolerance policies for bullying and hazing.

“So, the case is live, there’s litigation pending. If there’s nothing to hide with regards to the cage, why not let us come take a picture, why not let us inspect it?”

The school sent us a statement denying the allegations and says it took immediate action to expel two students when the allegations were first made.

Central Catholic has also filed motions to dismiss the lawsuit against the school and individual school officials.

Jesse Guerra, the attorney representing the family that has filed the lawsuit against Central Catholic High School, has released the following statement:

The filing of Central Catholic’s motion is a desperate attempt to do anything to make sure the case never sees the light of day and a form of attempting to silence and bully my clients. The ****** case is a really bad case for them given the facts that we all are aware of. Credible agencies like ChildSafe and their Forensic interviewers have verified what my clients’ son endured and no one with their agency or with the Police has said that his statements were exaggerated or false. We expected this filing from their legal team before filing suit. The unspeakable acts that occurred under their supervision of my clients’ son did occur and any reasonable person could believe them to be true. The law supports our Pleadings in that regard. Of course, we will be filing a timely response to what we believe is a meritless motion given all the facts and law. We further expect them to likely appeal the decision if their motion is denied to stall the case and halt litigation proceedings. They have refused to allow us to depose anyone from Central and they have not agreed to allow us to inspect the cage at issue which we believe from credible sources has been altered. We look forward to a hearing on the Motions and making our case in Court. Central Catholic staff was fully aware of the hazing and bullying acts prior to April 29, 2025. They were also aware of a prevalent culture of bullying and hazing at the school for several years.
