A former Upstate youth pastor and wedding videographer accused of secretly recording women and children has been sentenced to federal prison.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Timothy M. Cain sentenced Daniel Kellan Mayfield, 37, of Boiling Springs, to a maximum 20 years in prison on Oct. 21, according to court documents. The former youth pastor at Gowensville First Baptist Church must register as a sex offender and go under lifetime supervision once released.
Cain counted two and a half years served in jail towards his sentence.
Mayfield pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography on Dec. 4, 2024. According to court documents, Mayfield knowingly possessed material that had an image of a child under 12.
Greenville County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mayfield in July 2023 when he was accused of recording women and children changing in private areas of the church while he was contracted as a wedding videographer in 2019 and 2021. He was charged with voyeurism and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators said Mayfield admitted to recording videos of multiple women and minor-aged girls while they were changing in the church bathroom. He was employed at the church from the summer of 2016 until he was fired on May 27, 2023.
Mayfield still faces more than 100 sex-related charges in Greenville, Spartanburg, Greenwood, Beaufort, and Charleston counties.
The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office will prosecute Mayfield’s local cases because the offenses were in multiple jurisdictions.
