Accused in a lawsuit filed in 11/2025 of sexually abusing a boy, ages 16-17, in 1972 and 1973. Cuenin had become a close family friend. The abuse allegedly occurred at a priests’ home in Hull and during a trip to France. In 1/2025 a man accused Cuenin in a lawsuit of sexually assaulting him as a 20-year-old Brandeis University student in 2014, during a trip to New York City. Cuenin was at the time a Brandeis chaplain. He had been an outspoken critic of Cardinal Law’s handling of the clergy sexual abuse crisis. Cuenin was retired and living in a VA nursing home in 1/2025. He denied the allegations.
