The Roman Catholic Diocese of Alexandria is reminding individuals who allege sexual abuse connected to the diocese or its affiliated entities that they must file a claim by June 8, 2026, as part of the diocese’s ongoing bankruptcy case.
The diocese filed for bankruptcy as it works to restructure its nonprofit operations and address compensation for people identified in court documents as putative abuse survivors.
The case, listed as In re: Diocese of Alexandria, Case No. 25-31257 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Louisiana, includes a deadline for survivors to submit a Putative Abuse Survivor Proof of Claim.
According to the public notice, anyone who believes they were sexually abused and that the diocese or individuals affiliated with it may be responsible is required to file a claim. This includes alleged abuse connected to entities or activities associated with the diocese, such as parishes, schools, orphanages or Catholic Charities programs.
Officials said that although the diocese is the entity currently in bankruptcy, individuals with claims involving affiliated organizations may need to take additional legal action to preserve their rights.
The deadline to submit a claim is June 8, 2026. The notice states that failing to file by that date could result in the loss of certain rights, including the ability to seek compensation through the bankruptcy process.
Information submitted through the claims process will be kept private, according to the notice.
Claim forms and additional information are available on the case website. Individuals may also call (855) 655-5795 for assistance with filing a claim by mail or to request more information.
