A former teacher at a school in Surrey has been jailed for sexually assaulting a pupil.
Jonathan Marshall, 75, targeted the boy – then aged between eight and 10 – when he worked at St Dunstan’s Middle Catholic School in Woking during the late 1980s.
The victim disclosed in 2021 the sexual attacks had taken place in a neighbouring church, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
On one occasion, he said he was driven away from the school to a deserted property, where Marshall and another, now-deceased man, abused him, leaving the victim feeling “intense panic” after realising he was too small to fight off the two men.
In December, Marshall was found guilty of 13 counts of sexual offences against a child at Kingston Crown Court.
On Thursday, he was jailed for 24 years at a hearing at the same court.
St Dunstan’s Middle Catholic School closed in 1993.
‘Chilling’
Catherine Wear from the CPS called Marshall an “appalling sexual predator”.
She said he had taken “full advantage” of his position of authority, telling the child that no one would believe him as he was “just a little boy”.
The victim said he felt threatened and coerced by Marshall, who did everything he could to control him and made veiled threats that he could get into trouble if he spoke about the abuse, according to Wear.
“Stories were found on Marshall’s laptop from a website specialising in sexual interest in children,” Wear continued.
“These included chillingly similar details of the abuse described by the victim,” she said.
“Despite the threats Marshall made many years ago, the bravery of the victim in coming forward has ensured that the defendant has now been brought to justice.”
In 2013 Marshall, under his previous name of John Lillis, was jailed for six years for sexually abusing two pupils.
He changed his name by deed poll in 2017.
