Wyoming News Now has received a statement from the Diocese of Cheyenne related to a lawsuit of alleging sexual abuse.
The lawsuit alleged that former youth minister Doug Hudson of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Casper sexually assaulted three boys during youth programs in the 1990’s.
The complaint lists both the church and diocese as defendants for failing to supervise and control Hudson and protect the plaintiffs.
Their statement is included in full:
“The Diocese of Cheyenne has been notified of a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse in the mid-1990’s by an individual who served as a youth minister at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Casper, Wyoming.
Because this matter is now the subject of active litigation, the Diocese is not in a position to comment on the specific allegations. The Diocese does, however, wish to express its awareness of the seriousness of such claims and its concern for all individuals who may be affected.
The Diocese recognizes that allegations of abuse -particularly those involving minors- can cause deep pain and lasting harm. Any person who comes forward with such allegations deserves to be heard with respect and compassion.
The Diocese of Cheyenne remains committed to the protection of children and vulnerable individuals and continues to uphold policies and procedures designed to promote safety, accountability, and compliance with civil and Church law.
Out of respect for the legal process and all parties involved, the Diocese will refrain from further public comment while the matter proceeds.
