Monroe County Sheriff’s release says John Tyler Moreland, 30, was arrested on 5 warrants accusing him of downloading pornographic images of children

U.S. Marshals arrested a youth pastor on child pornography charges in Houston County, according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said John Tyler Moreland, 30, was arrested for downloading pornographic images of children.

According to the release, Pennsylvania State Police found that explicit images were downloaded in the area of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where Moreland was employed as a youth pastor. Pennsylvania police then contacted the Monroe Sheriff’s Office.

Larry Collins, head of Trinity Christian School in Dublin, added that Moreland was employed at the school for the school years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.

Collins said Moreland was a history teacher and had also coached both middle school football and wrestling.

Moreland, a Macon native, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Houston County, according to the press release. He is being held without bond and is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office worked with the FBI.

“The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is currently investigating if any offenses were committed in Georgia,” the press release said. “Search warrants have been obtained for devices in Monroe and Bibb County.”
