SNAP - Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests [Chicago IL]
July 2, 2026
SNAP commends every survivor and witness who came forward to share their testimony with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s investigation into clergy sexual abuse in the Diocese of Saginaw. The recent report is number six of seven investigations in the office’s ongoing pursuit of accountability in the state.
“Survivors’ courage and tenacity made this report possible,” said Judy Larson, a Michigan survivor and SNAP’s Board Secretary. “SNAP stands in solidarity with all Michigan survivors, including those who were unable or chose not to participate. This report has been years in the making and proves the resilience and bravery of Michigan’s survivors who came forward and demanded their day of reckoning.”
The Attorney General’s report offers acknowledgement to the victims of these alleged crimes and a public accounting of what lengths the office will go to to protect survivors and provide an environment that’s safe from preventable sexual violence.
SNAP exhorts church officials to hold the 38 clergy listed in the report for sexual misconduct since January 1, 1950 accountable. The investigation has been underway since 2018, covering millions of documents and referring several criminal reports back to the dioceses.
“It is high time that the perpetrators be held responsible for their misuse of authority,” Larson said.
While the Attorney General issued criminal charges in 11 cases throughout the entire state and secured convictions in nine cases, none were in the Saginaw diocese referenced in this most recent report.
SNAP actively believes that survivors, their families and the people of Michigan deserve complete transparency and a full accounting of what happened, who knew and how abuse was allowed to persist.
