A criminal complaint alleges that Seth Day sexually assaulted the couple’s daughter. The couple has been barred from seeing their children by an emergency protective order.
A criminal complaint reviewed by RNS revealed previously undisclosed details about sexual abuse allegations against Seth Day, husband of bestselling Adventist author and speaker Heather Thompson Day.
The Days were both arrested in late September and charged with injuring a child age 14 or younger. Seth Day was additionally charged with sexual assault.
According to the complaint filed in Johnson County Court in Cleburne, Texas, the Days’ daughter, who is a minor, told an investigator that her father, a professor at Southwestern Adventist University, had sexual intercourse with her on her bed, which she described as “yucky.”
The arrests came after a schoolteacher reported concerns about abuse after seeing bruises and lacerations on the couple’s daughter. The daughter later told investigators that her father had struck her with her cell phone and that her mother was aware of that assault and earlier alleged abuse.
In a video from a bond hearing published online this week by Spectrum magazine, a Seventh-day Adventist publication, Thompson Day, a popular speaker in Adventist circles, denied the allegations.
“That is not true,” Thompson Day told Justice of the Peace Andrew Nolan.
The Days are co-authors of “I’ll See You Tomorrow,” a bestselling Christian book on relationships. They have been ordered to wear monitoring devices after their release on bond. An emergency protective order bars them from having any contact with their children, according to the video of the bond hearing.
Attempts to reach the Days for comment weren’t immediately successful.
