Fr. Edward F. Egan
Ordained in 1941 for the Diocese of Providence. Assigned for the summer to St. Brendan Parish in Riverside, after which he was appointed chaplain at St. Francis Orphanage in Woonsocket. From 1942-1965 Egan was assistant pastor at St. Anthony Parish in Providence, then pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Bradford 1965-1970. From 1970-1991 he was pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Providence. Monsignor. Died in 2004. Egan was accused in a lawsuit filed in 2026 of sexually abusing a boy, ages 11-13, during 1978-1980, at St. Augustine’s. The boy was a student at the parish school. Egan allegedly would sexually assault the boy after calling him from class to his office for “purported disciplinary issues.” He would tell the boy he could “make it all go away,” then abuse him. He allegedly would also give the boy money, telling him not to tell anyone.

Our Database of Publicly Accused does not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the database are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements. For more information, see our posting policy.
